Corey Welchlin, D.O.

Dr. Corey Welchlin is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician practicing at the Center for Specialty Care’s surgery center and clinics.  He is a leader in the southern Minnesota and northern Iowa health care community and is respected nationally among orthopedic surgeons.  He performs the latest surgical orthopedic procedures practiced in teaching hospitals throughout the nation.  Dr. Welchlin is also available at many of the local hospitals for trauma coverage and surgery.

Procedures such as microfracture, ACL reconstruction, meniscus transplants, and ACI are performed by Dr. Welchlin at the Center for Specialty Care.  The arthroscopic method for these surgeries is less invasive and provides the patient with a shorter rehabilitation time.  Surgeons performing these surgeries consistently have proven to be the most effective.

  • Joint Preservation and Repair -  arthritic pain and joint stability is addressed in a couple of different approaches.  Unispacers, hylaronic acid therapy, and other methods are used to help restore ligament tension and normal knee alignment while preserving the patient's natural bone.
  • Autologous Cultured Chondrocyte Implantation (ACI) - procedure for knee cartilage defects.  Small portions of the patient's cartilage is removed surgically and sent to a company to grow cartilage. Several months later, the cartilage is implanted into the defect area of the patient’s knee to repair the defect.
  • Minimal incision hip and knee replacements.
  • Minimal incision and arthoscopic rotator cuff repairs.
  • Endoscopic carpal tunnel release.
  • Hamstring ACL knee reconstruction.
  • Wrist and elbow arthroscopy.
  • Percutaneous pedicle screw fusions of lumbar spine.
  • Cervical spine surgery

Dr. Welchlin created and currently oversees all aspects of the Center for Specialty Care’s medical practices and business operations.  Growing up in Fairmont, Dr. Welchlin appreciates the fact he brings specialized care to his community.
